CLIENT

Matchado is a premium Japanese matcha brand I co-founded and created, to bring high-grade ceremonial matcha to a broader audience. I led the brand, including visual identity, brand strategy and a complete packaging system. The new brand direction is scheduled for implementation in 2026.

CHALLENGE

The matcha market looks largely the same: green palettes and minimalistic visuals. The challenge was to break out of that visual sameness and create a bold, niche and culturally respectful brand with the potential to become a lovebrand (a brand people follow and identify with), rather than just another “green matcha look.”

RESULT

The visual language and packaging, is built around a Kabuki-inspired mask and an illustrative packaging system with traditional Japanese motifs. The brand differs from the typical matcha aesthetic, and a high-end look suitable for luxury gifting, horeca collaborations and international wholesale.
